Artist Statement

Arvid Anderson

Arvid Anderson has his studio on Fox Island in the Gig Harbor area of Puget Sound. Arvid works in multi media, including sculpture and monotypes. He considers himself an experimentalist and uses various methods and materials in his monotypes to create each unique image. He favors strong colors and landscapes influenced by the marine atmosphere of Western Washington and the dry-scapes of Eastern Washington.

His wooden masks and sculptures incorporate natural materials with themes indigenous to the Northwest. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Puget Sound and a Juris Doctor from Gonzaga University. After a 35 year career as a trial attorney and senior partner in a local law firm he retired to pursue his career as an artist. Arvid has won numerous awards for his sculptures and unique monotypes.

He is active in the Peninsula Art League and is an exhibiting artist with the Proctor Art Gallery in Tacoma. He is also a member of the Gig Harbor Open Studio Tour group of commercial artists and the Seattle Print Arts association.

Artist's Statement
: My objective is to concentrate on design and balance enhanced by color.

Monotype: A unique, original work of art created through a combination of painting and printmaking techniques. The one-of-a-kind image is developed on an unaltered, flat plate using oil or water based media and transferred by hand or a press onto another surface, usually paper. A single image is produced, which is the monotype.
